IN 3 DIMENSIONS
AND NONE

Acute Art is a new art platform that transforms the way we collect, trade, and live with art. Together with KAWS and Olafur Eliasson, two of today’s most celebrated artists, we’re proud to launch a series of artworks that opens up a world of new possibilities.

Invisible to the naked eye, the augmented reality art comes to life in your phone’s camera to reveal beautifully crafted sculptures that interact seamlessly and playfully with the world around them. The experience takes art out of the gallery, onto the streets, and into people’s hands – challenging conventions about what constitutes a suitable canvas for an artist’s vision. In the process, it offers anyone, anywhere the opportunity to enjoy art and interact with it on a uniquely personal level. The photos and videos that you capture and share add an extra dimension to the experience, making the platform a truly collaborative one.

Olafur Eliasson

Olafur Eliasson’s art is driven by his interests in perception, movement, embodied experience, and feelings of self. He strives to make the concerns of art relevant to society at large. Art, for him, is a crucial means for turning thinking into doing in the world. Eliasson’s works span sculpture, painting, photography, film, installation, VR and AR. Not limited to the confines of the museum and gallery, his practice engages the broader public sphere through architectural projects, interventions in civic space, arts education, policy-making, and issues of sustainability and climate change.

On this project, Olafur Eliasson said: “Today, where physical distancing guides our lives, it’s as crucial as ever that we surround ourselves with things and atmospheres that really matter to us. All elements of the WUNDERKAMMER play a role in my life. Some are objects that we normally take for granted – and I feel they should be celebrated like the wonders they, in fact, are. Other elements in the collection will be more experimental, such as light sculptures and objects that are invisible to the eye until you ‘catch’ them with your hand. The artwork is about challenging our perception of the everyday and actively welcoming that which lies on the boundary between the known and the unknown. It is about creating spaces that meld the everyday and the extraordinary – spaces that evoke vivid perceptions and embodied engagement.”

In 2017 Eliasson first launched his collaboration with Acute Art with Rainbow, an artwork in VR that draws on his fascination with natural phenomena and perception.

In 2019 Eliasson was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for renewable energy and climate action by the United Nations Development Programme.

KAWS

KAWS is recognized globally as one of the most influential artists working today. Throughout his career, the New York artist has created everything from murals and paintings to large-scale sculptures for public spaces – engaging with audiences far beyond the art world. He was inspired to work in AR because of the new possibilities it opens up and the opportunity it gives people to interact with his work in a more personal way.

With this project, KAWS is breaking new ground but also returning to his roots. As the artist explains, “When I realized the quality that could be achieved and experienced in AR, I was immediately drawn to its potential. I have been creating objects and exhibiting works in public spaces throughout my career, and this allows me to expand on that in a whole new arena. The possibilities of locations and scale are endless, and I’m excited to start a new dialogue in this medium.”

Acute Art

Acute Art collaborates with the world’s most compelling artists – including Marina Abramović, Olafur Eliasson, Cao Fei, Antony Gormley, Jeff Koons, KAWS, Bjarne Melgaard, Koo Jeong A, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg – providing access to ever-evolving new technologies that allow them to translate their creative vision into new digital mediums – including virtual, augmented and mixed realities.

The new Acute Art app gives people the opportunity to discover, experience and collect art in a way that’s never been done before. You can view augmented reality works through your phone’s camera, and share your photos and videos through the app. So if you haven’t already, why not download it now and start collecting?
